Baked Creole Turkey Meatballs with Mushroom Gravy

Today is Meatball day! I love well seasoned meatballs with a nice creamy gravy, it's comfort food at it's best!

Today I am making my famous, o.k., not famous, but famous in my family, Turkey Meatballs with Creamy Mushroom Gravy!

I love using mushrooms in my gravy because it gives the gravy a nice texture.

If you don't like mushrooms, omit them and just make the brown gravy, it's still good!

I baked these meatballs but I also prepare them another way, which requires you to  lightly roll them in flour, pan fry them in olive oil, then top with gravy and let them slow simmer for about 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes in the oven, they're all ready to eat up!

I served my meatballs with mashed potatoes, but hot rice works very well in soaking up all that good gravy!

Enjoy!

2 cloves garlic, minced
3 cups chicken broth
1/2 cup heavy cream
3 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons butter, unsalted
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Mix seasoning blend and set aside.

Add about 1 tablespoon of olive oil to a skillet, over medium heat. Saute bell pepper, onions and celery for about 5 minutes.

Season with 1 tablespoon of seasoning blend, add garlic and saute 1 minute more. Remove vegetables from pan and set aside to cool.

Reserve 1 tablespoon of seasoning blend for gravy.

In a large bowl, add sausage, casing removed, ground turkey, bread, beaten egg, and cooled vegetables.

Add remaining seasoning blend and mix well. Form meatballs into golf ball size and place on a greased baking sheet.

Bake meatballs for 30 minutes. While meatballs bake prepare gravy.

Add butter and olive oil to a pan over medium heat. Add mushrooms and onion, saute for about 5 minutes, add garlic and cook 1 minute more.

Mix in flour, stirring constantly, add broth and seasonings, whisk well. Reduce heat to low, stir in heavy cream.

Allow to simmer for about 5 minutes. Thin with more broth if needed.

Remove meatballs from oven, pour gravy over them and serve with hot rice or mashed potatoes, enjoy!
